What Can One Do with a 24 Inch Rigid Heddle Loom?

What brought this whole obsession to fruition? The end of April 2025, I was diagnosed with Glaucoma. My eyes were tired. I found that I was having a more difficult time spending the hours on end sewing and quilting (I still do a fair amount). I needed something that I could do that filled the need to make and create void without extreme concentration close up.

I had been curious about weaving and different looms for a bit now.  Really didn't know the differences, one from another.  Found a few videos and really liked the the versatility and simplicity (AND PRICE) of a rigid heddle loom.  So, for my birthday, I bought myself an Ashford 24" Rigid Heddle Loom.

I watched more videos on how to warp - actually really began to understand what a warp and a weft was and after assembling my new loom, warped up my very first test.  It went fairly well, with lots to learn about tension in both the warp and the weft. The light green and white is my very first project.  Today I finished the green box check towels and was able to add my new cotton twill labels from twilltape.com. The green box check towels are my 6th project so far.

I am loving the process! I find it very relaxing and methodical with a twist of color and creation.  I love making things that I and others can use.  Actually use.  I hope to possibly make some cotton bath towels.  These towels are super soft and very thirsty.  I can't wait to see where this leads me!
