This Year So Far...
Jun 15, 2025 | By: Diane K Costello
2025 is on it's way to being half past. Six months of this year have flown by and at the same time stood ridiculously still. Back in February, I headed to Phoenix. Met up with my sister and her friend Jen for QUILTCON 2025! Quiltcon was amazing! We had a great time in Phoenix! Can't wait to go back.
April - Ahhh, April. Not a whole lot happened in April. I re-started working on an EP (English aper Piecing) hand sewing project that I had started 4 years prior. (I am still working on it...)
May, ahh May....parts of it kinda sucked! The first week of May I was diagnosed with Normal Tension Glaucoma. My heart sank and I felt like I was handed a death sentence. Super weird feeling - even though I knew full well that I was not going to go blind tomorrow, it was a blow. I started reading on it and getting more information. Met with a friend/retired opthomologist who explained so much. A week later I came down with a horrible cold. I finally started feeling better the day before Tim and I headed to Kauai for a couple weeks. Dire need of a vacation at this point! Of course, that didn't quite go as planned...the travel was fine... the congestion and flying...NOT SO MUCH! Thank goodness we were able to jut chill, enjoy the humidity and sunny warm weather. Tim swam the Napali Coast two times. The first time to the first beach and the second time to Kalalau Beach at the end of the Kalalau Trail 10km. He is a beast!!! Finally over the cold, SMCo Fair Quilt Hanging the day after we made it home. Go-Go-Go.
June, already. The fair is over. I entered three quilts. I received a 1st and a 2nd on two of them. More than I was expecting. June 10th I went in for a laser procedure on my eyes to relieve the pressure. I go back in August for one of many follow-ups to come. I have had the past week off and although I can see, reading or doing any kind of fine eye work was a big no! I did get myself a Rigid Heddle Loom for my birthday and have been teaching myself how to weave. My goal is to weave nice cotton kitchen towels. I finished my first two towels after a few practice weavings. I have learned a lot and I do enjoy it. Time goes by pretty quickly and I love how these towels feel.
The first 6 months of 2025 are almost over, jut one more milestone. We celebrate our 27th anniversary on June 27. It feels good!
What does the rest of 2025 have in store? I guess we will have to wait and see!
