This Year So Far...
Monday, December 29, 2025 | By: Diane K Costello
2025 is almost over. This year has flown by and at the same time stood ridiculously still.
February, I headed to Phoenix. Met up with my sister and her friend Jen for QUILTCON 2025! Quiltcon was amazing! We had a great time in Phoenix! Can't wait to go back.
March - I think it rained - a lot.
April - Ahhh, April. Not a whole lot happened in April. I re-started working on an EPP (English aper Piecing) hand sewing project that I had started 4 years prior. (I am still working on it...)
May....parts of it kinda sucked! The very last week of April I was diagnosed with Normal Tension Glaucoma. My heart sank and I felt like I was handed a death sentence. Super weird feeling - even though I knew full well that I was not going to go blind tomorrow, it was a blow. I started reading on it and getting more information. Met with a friend/retired ophthalmologist who explained so much. A week later I came down with a horrible cold. I finally started feeling better the day before Tim and I headed to Kauai for a couple weeks. Dire need of a vacation at this point! Of course, that didn't quite go as planned...the travel was fine... the congestion and flying...NOT SO MUCH! Thank goodness we were able to just chill, enjoy the humidity and sunny warm weather. Tim swam the Napali Coast two times. The first time to the first beach and the second time to Kalalau Beach at the end of the Kalalau Trail 10km. He is a beast!!! Finally over the cold, SMCo Fair Quilt Hanging the day after we made it home. Go-Go-Go.
June, already. The fair is over. I entered three quilts. I received a 1st and a 2nd on two of them. More than I was expecting. June 10th I went in for a laser procedure on my eyes to relieve the pressure. I go back in August for one of many follow-ups to come. I have had the past week off and although I can see, reading or doing any kind of fine eye work was a big no! I did get myself a Rigid Heddle Loom for my birthday and have been teaching myself how to weave. My goal is to weave nice cotton kitchen towels. I finished my first two towels after a few practice weavings. I have learned a lot and I do enjoy it. Time goes by pretty quickly and I love how these towels feel.
Just one more milestone for June. We celebrated our 27th anniversary on June 27. It feels good!
July, I don't really remember much of July so it couldn't have been too bad. LOL!
August, We celebrated Tim's birthday. Worked a lot. Tim swam a lot.
September, I purchased an Ashford 32" 8-shaft Loom and have been going all out on hand towels. Each one is better than the last!!!
October, Well, that was fun - let's not do that again ok! Tim flew off to Fiji with out me. Long story short, he was invited and I wasn't. It was a swimming thing. The day he left it rained and out roof in the garage started leaking - A LOT! Right over my long arm - yay. Thank goodness I had it covered. It had been an ongoing issue with the solar company that went bankrupt's contract - we ended up having to re roof our whole house - an expense we were not expecting - it costs a lot. The stress from all of that - I do NOT want to deal with that again!
November, Busy busy busy! I had an old client/friend contact me. Her Grandma had a couple of old looms that she wanted to give good to a good home and thought of me. I met her at grandmas house and ended up bringing home 3 looms. One of which (a 21" Schacht table loom on stand) I will be loaning to my friend Shawn, The other is an early edition of a Norwood Solid Cherry Floor Loom. She is Gorgeous! I spent a few weeks cleaning her up and replacing a few nuts and bolts here and there. I received the Texsolve Heddles (replacing the old metals ones with Texsolve). Worked on getting a simple warp wrapped and should be ready to warp. She weaves like a dream!!!
We went camping with some old friends along the delta. Neat place, Kokete RV park.
Tim was diagnosed with two different types of skin cancer, BCC and SCC. He had to undergo both a horrible topical treatment and surgery.
Thanksgiving came and went.
December, Surgery went well, stitches come out tomorrow on Tim's arm. I participated in an Art and Craft Fair and did really well. I made over 50 hand woven towels and sold all but 4. I purchased a used Schacht Matchless single treadle spinning wheel - super inexpensive. I really love spinning. Now to get things made! Christmas is over. All of the decorations have been put away. I am looking forward to a wonderful, calm 2026!
Happy New Year!!!
